Frequently Asked Questions
1. What do the Watch statuses mean?
Normal — Your Apple Watch is paired and CatchHook is installed. Everything is working as expected.
No Watch Paired — No Apple Watch is paired with this iPhone. Open the system Watch app and complete the pairing process.
App Not Installed — Your Apple Watch is paired, but CatchHook is not installed on it. This status may also appear if your Watch just ran out of battery or was turned off — it will return to normal automatically once the Watch is charged and back on. If your Watch is on and the issue persists, try the following steps in order:
- Make sure your Apple Watch is running watchOS 11 or later. CatchHook does not support older watchOS versions.
- Keep your iPhone and Apple Watch within 1 meter of each other and wait a moment
- Enable Airplane Mode on both devices simultaneously, then disable it to trigger a re-push
- Restart your Apple Watch, or restart your iPhone
- If none of the above work, open the Watch app on your iPhone, remove CatchHook from your Watch, then reinstall it
Not Supported — The current device does not support Apple Watch connectivity. You will not see this status during normal use.
Not Connected — Your subscription doesn't include Apple Watch. Subscribe to the Apple Watch Plan to start recordings on your Watch.
2. Session data does not appear in the iPhone app after ending a Watch session
- Data sync may take a moment. Keep your iPhone and Apple Watch close to each other, open the iPhone app, and wait briefly.
- If the data still does not appear after a long wait, check whether the Watch status on the Settings page is normal. If the issue cannot be resolved, contact the developer.
3. Why isn't my record counted in the stats?
- A newly created record is in the Editing state and is not counted. Once you've filled it in, tap Save — only saved records count toward stats and badges.
- Deleted records are not counted, and deletion cannot be undone.
4. Why does my record have no weather, or no location on the map?
- A record's location is the midpoint of its Apple Watch route. Without a route, the location of the first catch photo that carries location data is used instead.
- Weather is looked up for the record's location at its start time.
- If no photo has a location and there is no Watch route, the record has no location, so weather cannot be fetched.
- Allow the Camera app to use your location so your photos carry location data.
5. What does the number on the Spots icon mean?
It's the number of spots you haven't named yet. Give them a name and the number goes away.
6. My subscription is gone
- Your subscription is linked to your App Store account. Make sure you're signed in with the Apple ID used for the purchase, then tap Restore Purchase on the subscription page.
- Check Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions to confirm your subscription is still active.
7. What's the difference between the Standard Plan and the Apple Watch Plan?
- The Standard Plan includes every feature except Apple Watch.
- The Apple Watch Plan includes every feature, plus Apple Watch recording.
- Neither plan limits how many records you can save.
8. Can I get my data back on a new iPhone?
- Yes. Turn on iCloud Backup under Settings → General in the app (it is on by default once you are signed in to iCloud). Your saved trips, photos, spots, and badge covers are backed up to your own iCloud.
- On the new iPhone, sign in to the same iCloud account and open CatchHook; your data downloads automatically.
- Heart rate, steps, and active calories are health data and are not backed up to iCloud; on trips restored from iCloud these show as empty (your data in the Health app is not affected).
- Before switching phones, make sure iCloud Backup on the old phone shows Backed up.
- If you move to a new iPhone with Quick Start or a full iCloud device backup, your data moves with it as well.
9. Does data sync between my devices?
- A trip newly saved on one device appears on your other devices signed in to the same iCloud.
- Changes to or deletions of existing trips are not synced; each device keeps its own version.
- Edits you haven't saved are not backed up.
10. iCloud Backup says "Off" or "Can't back up right now"
- Can't back up right now: usually no network connection; backup resumes once you are online.
- iCloud account changed or iCloud data was deleted: backup turned itself off and the data on this device is not affected. Turn the switch back on and confirm to back up this device's data again.
- Uninstalling the app does not delete your data in iCloud. To delete it, open the iPhone Settings app and go to Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → CatchHook → Delete Data.
